TF7 Intro to Final Cut Express video editing part 1 – a simple workflow and transcoding

The start of a new series on video editing on the Mac (although a lot of the principles are the same whatever you are editing on), covering a simple workflow and why it is important (and usually necessary) to convert files from video cameras before editing them.

MPEG Streamclip is used to convert (transcode) the files and can be obtained at http://www.squared5.com/

Intro to Final Cut Express video editing part 1: simple workflow and transcoding with MPEG Streamclip from Mark Johnson on Vimeo.

Thank you very much. Your introduction to Final Cut Express helped me immensely. I had been using iLife 2005 and walked into an Apple store last year and was completely stymied with the interface of Final Cut.

Your five part tutorial gave me the conceptual skills needed to start working with the program from which I can now explore for myself.

Very, very fine work!

Thank you.

Dear Mark Johnson,

Thank you for the great FCE tutorials. Clear Explanations and a really good voice (you should think about reading AudioBooks :-)).
My Problem is this:
Whatever i do with the Clips (coming from my Canon 5D Mark II, H.264, 1920×1080 HD) in MPEG Streamclip, the size of the clips is never changing much and they still need renderin FCE.
And is there any special Sequenz or Projekt setting i have to do when i start a new FCE Projekt..

Greetings from Munich, Germany and thanks again
