As we continue to plan for a new studio for ttfn.tv we have been thinking about the required lighting set up. Currently we use Interfit compact fluorescent lights which are primarily designed for photography not video. For the proposed new studio we willnneed to have fixed lighting on a grid, doing away with stands so freeing up space and reducing the trip hazards. With more potential shows being introduced in the next year we also need a flexible approach to allow us to provide a different ‘set’ for each show, as well as a green chroma key screen.
We expect to end up with a mixture of compact fluorescent and LED video studio lights. With a limited budget we need to ensure we make the right purchase decisions!
For LED lighting Datavision, Coollights, Flolight and Litepanel are all being considered. These seem to be the only 4 ‘branded’ lights available, there are others for example on ebay but it is difficult to get much information on them. Currently we are building a comparison of the available units to help in our decision making, this has already revealed some interesting facts!
As soon as this is finished we will share it for everyone to see here on the website. If you have any experience of lighting a small 4m x 6m studio we would welcome your comments or suggestions.
